A major milestone has been reached in the ITER fusion project: Ampegon and Fusion for Energy have officially handed over the first European high-voltage power supply unit to ITER Organization.
Since 2013, Ampegon has worked in close collaboration with F4E to design, manufacture and commission the high-voltage power supply systems for ITER’s Electron Cyclotron Heating system. The units are designed to deliver regulated high voltage and current to the ITER gyrotrons — the microwave sources responsible for heating and stabilising the plasma.
The first unit has now successfully completed full on-site commissioning and performance validation, with teams running a comprehensive sequence of tests both locally and remotely to verify compliance with demanding performance and safety requirements.
This achievement marks a significant step forward in enabling stable, high-power plasma heating at ITER scale.
