Karlsruhe Institut of Technology (KIT)
KIT works to investigate novel gyrotron designs, and contracted Ampegon for a huge -90kV, 120A power supply with modulation up to -130kV for their new gyrotron test-stand. KIT allowed Ampegon to produce a virtual tour of their huge 10MW CW system.

Fusion for Energy (F4E)
Fusion for Energy, Europe’s contribution to the ITER project praised Ampegon for proceeding with on-time deliveries of their high voltage gyrotron power supplies, despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.
Tullio Bonicelli, F4E Programme Manager for Neutral Beam & EC Power Supplies and Sources offered kind praise to all those at Ampegon working hard under difficult circumstances to meet the delivery schedule: “These deliveries, performed ahead of schedule, merit particular praise since the manufacturing occurred during the pandemic. In spite of the new restrictions imposed on the industrial activities, we managed to complete the equipment safely and earlier. This shows the commitment of the company towards F4E and the ITER project.”
Ferran Albajar, Ampegon’s primary contact at F4E, added: “It gives us great satisfaction to see that we have maintained a steady flow of production leading to more deliveries on-site. The good working relationship and the well-executed planning have contributed to this seamless mode of operation which at times delivered components earlier than expected.”

Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI)
In 2016 Ampegon was awarded the coveted Swiss Technology Award in the category “Innovation Leaders”, the most important technology prize for innovation and technology transfer in Switzerland. Ampegon, in cooperation with the Institute of High Power Electronics (HPE) of ETH Zurich, has developed an innovative short pulse modulator used for research facilities such as SwissFEL (Free Electron Laser) at PSI and for medical applications (cancer treatment) and industrial processes (liquid sterilization). The jury honored the modulator for its high level of technological innovation, combining both economical and social benefits.
All India Radio (AIR)
Ampegon supplies high-power radio transmitters to India, broadcasting All India Radio’s shortwave service to hundreds of millions of people. Yogendra Pal, former Chief Engineer for All India Radio provides his high assessment of Ampegon’s transmitters: “[Using Ampegon transmitters over others] I save at least 50% of the power, so it’s a really green technology, and then in one step, just by replacing the transmitter or converting the transmitter to digital [DRM operation]; the whole country, we are able to provide multiple programmes, so I don’t think there can be any better choice than this.”
KDDI Japan
Working with Hitachi Kokusai Electric, Ampegon provided a number of 300kW shortwave transmitters to Japan. Takuzo Fujii, former manager at Hitachi Kokusai Electric explains: “The highest possible energy efficiency was important when procuring new transmission equipment. We studied nearly 10 years on the basis of ITU [shortwave broadcasting] theory to establish these type of custom technologies, and your company made the best contributions, from a technical point of view and to make international cooperations.”
